Airlines cancelled nearly 22,000 U.S. flights for Thursday following Hurricane Ian struck the Florida Gulf Coast with catastrophic force in one of the most destructive U.S. storms in recent times.

The storm is causing major interruptions for U.S. air travel, particularly within the Southeast United States. Since Tuesday, airlines have had to cancel over 5,000 flight until Friday.
